Thunderbird Composite Squadron is one of the most prestigious units in New Mexico. Thunderbird was formed on Nov 8, 1976 and was given the charter NM-SWR-033. Thunderbird Currently has 46 cadet and 27 senior members.

This Squadron is active in Emergency Services, Cadet Competitions and Wing CAC. We are currently the Squadron of the Year and are very active in the community.

The cost for a cadet to join Civil Air Patrol is $30 (checks should be made to CAP NHQ).  Additional uniform accoutrement costs can be up to $20.00 and  include the name tape and CAP tape (for the BDU's), name tag (for the blues), squadron patch, wing patch, reverse American Flag, flight cap and BDU cover (if we do not have your size in supply), shoes and boots (if we do not have your size in supply).  The BDU boots can be purchased either at Vanguard, the Kirtland AFB Military Clothing and Sales (store) or at a local "sports" store. You should keep the cost of the boots under $40.  Check with other cadets in the squadron as to where they purchased their boots.
